Pakistan bomb kills 20

At least 20 people have died in a suicide bombing at a Pakistani market close to the Afghan border.

Five of the dead were members of the security forces. At least 40 people were wounded.

The suicide bomber blew himself at a security checkpoint near the market in the town of Khar.

The dead included passers-by, one woman and several schoolchildren.

The Pakistani Taliban said it was behind the bombing.

It has carried out similar attacks in the tribal Bajur region in the past, where Pakistan has launched repeated strikes against local militants.

The country has been high alert since Wednesday, the first anniversary of Osama Bin Laden’s killing by American troops.
