FARC rebels in Colombia say they are holding a French journalist, captured during an attack on an Colombian army unit.
Four Colombian soldiers in the southern Caqueta region were shot and killed.
The anti-narcotics brigade were ambushed as they were dropped from helicopters on a mission to destroy a FARC cocaine processing plant.
The heavily armed FARC unit then melted into the jungle before the Colombian military could respond.
FARC has been under pressure from Colombia’s US-backed army since 2002 but talk of them being severely weakened appears premature.
On Friday eight people were killed in two FARC raids in the same area.
