Romania government falls on no-confidence vote

Romania’s centre-right government has collapsed following the loss of a vote of confidence just two months after taking office.

The EU’s second-poorest member has slashed salaries and raised sales taxes in a bid to cut debt at Brussel’s bidding, but now those austerity policies have exacted their political price.

The country could now be facing months of political turmoil.
