Riot police in Bahrain fired tear gas at crowds after the funeral of a protester who died last week in the lead up to Sunday’s Formula One Grand Prix.
The cause of Salah Abbas Habib’s death remains unclear although a family member said his body showed buckshot wounds and several broken bones.
Pro-democracy activists say he died from a police beating. Around 15,000, people attended the ceremony.
Bahrain has been in turmoil since the mainly Shi’ite
majority last year began calling for democratic reforms from the ruling royal family.
The weekend’s grand prix proved a catalyst for further clashes after a crackdown by the authorities.
A Bahrain court has once again delayed ruling on the case of a jailed hunger striker and other activists appealing their sentences linked to the uprising.
