Police in Italy have seized seven tonnes of cannabis in Genoa, during an operation that has led to international arrests.
Nine men in Canada and two in Pakistan have been apprehended in connection with the smuggling attempt.
Authorities in all three countries worked together, confiscating a total of 43 tonnes of the drug, which was in the form of hashish.
The seven tonnes seized in Italy were discovered in a container and believed to be in transit from the Pakistani city of Karachi – the location of the country busiest port.
Italian police have incinerated the hashish.
The drugs were grown and packaged in Afghanistan – the largest producer of hashish in the world.
