Treasure turns up in Milan for Northern League

The former treasurer of Italy’s Northern League has had gold bars and diamonds worth 300,000 euros and an Audi A6 delivered to party headquarters in Milan.

Francisco Belsito has not explained where they have come from, nor if they are part of a 600,000 euro stash that Italy’s financial police are hunting.

They are investigating into alleged illegal party funding of the Northern League. It is not known where part of its funds have come from, and it has been established senior party members, notably leader Umberto Bossi and his family, have had the use of some of the money.

A mysterious six million more euros have been invested in companies in Cyprus and Tanzania by persons unknown.

As the party continues to purge itself its president of the Lombardy Regional Council, Davide Boni resigned saying, “I am following my leader’s example.”
