Spanish King goes under the knife again

Spain’s King Juan Carlos has gone under the knife again.

The 74-year-old monarch has had a hip replacement following a fall while on a private visit to Botswana. An official statement said the operation was, “linked to arthritis,” that he suffered a fracture in three places adding the fall was, “accidental.”

A national daily newspaper in the country reported on its website that the King’s operation at a hospital in Madrid came after he had been in Botswana hunting elephants.

King Juan Carlos was seen sporting a black eye last year sustained it was reported when he was, “hit by a doorknob.” In three other operations in the last two years he had a benign lung tumour removed, a torn Achilles repaired and was given an artifical knee joint.

The family too have at times proved accident prone. Earlier this week the King’s grandson shot himself in the foot accidentally while carrying out target practice outside a family home north of Madrid.
