A South Korean news agency claims to have intelligence that North Korea is planning a third nuclear weapons test.
The North has openly admitted plans to launch a rocket later this month which it says is just to put a satellite in to orbit. It strongly denies accusations from South Korea that it’s really a missile test
“If it were a ballistic missile it would have to be hidden in an underground chamber,” said Launch Site Director Jang Myong Jing. “It would need to be carried on board another vehicle for protection. If it were not, then it would be useless in a real war.”
But South Korea’s Yonhap news agency quoted an unidentified intelligence source as saying the North is “clandestinely preparing a nuclear test.”
That view is shared by the United States based on satellite images which the South says show the digging of a tunel at a site previously used for nuclear tests.
