Syrian authorities seek written guarantees from insurgents

Syrian authorities have demanded written guarantees from insurgents before they are willing to begin pulling back troops.

A Syrian foreign ministry spokesman said UN and Arab league peace envoy, Kofi Annan, has not yet delivered the written guarantees they require before they are willing to withdraw.

A peace plan drawn up by Annan requires Syrian President Bashar al Assad to “begin pullback of military concentrations around population centres” by Tuesday.

Reports and amateur footage given by opposition activists claim that Syrian forces have today bombarded the cities of Idlib and Homs, killing and injuring dozens of people.
