In the Europa league quarter-finals Schalke went to Bilbao but were unable to overcome Athletico, while Athletico Madrid saw off the challenge of Hannover to make it Spain 2, Germany 0.

Valencia beat AZ Alkmaar 4-0, and Kharkov and Sporting Lisbon drew, with one point enough for the Portugese.

That means semi-finals between Bilbao and Sporting, and Atletico Madrid and Valencia. Three Spanish teams in the final four.
