Violence in Syria is spreading beyond the usual flashpoints – with government forces fighting rebels all over the country.
Homs continues to be a hotspot. Activists claim at least 11 civilians have been killed in the latest shelling there.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says “a major operation” is underway in Douma – about 10 kilometres northwest of central Damascus.
The capital itself is just one of various places that have been attacked by government forces on Thursday, including Idlib and Hama.
Turkish authorities say more than 1,600 Syrians have fled to Turkey over the last two days – the highest number since March 15 when 1,000 came in one day. Many of the latest refugees are escaping shelling in the northern Syrian towns of Idlib and Aleppo.
