Up to a dozen tornadoes have ripped through Texas, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
At least 17 people were injured as the twisters tore apart buildings, uprooted trees and tossed trucks into the air, like they were toys.
“It was just: boom, boom, boom. Just loud noise “ said Carver Malone, a resident of Lancaster, south of Dallas, whose home was damaged by the storm.
“Then I started hearing glass shatter, wind blowing and then I happened to look up and I was in the bedroom and it looked like I could see the sky.”
Roofs and walls were blown away as homes were reduced to rubble, with power cuts reported in tens of thousands of properties.
The densely-populated Dallas-Fort Worth area was hit by the twisters. Some 400 flights were cancelled at the international airport.
Given the intensity of the storm and the number of tornadoes, authorities are amazed that no one was killed.
