Front-runners Groupama produced a superb display to reach Cape Horn ahead of Puma on the fifth leg of the Volvo Ocean Race.

Only Franck Cammas’ French boat and Puma have emerged unscathed from the brutal Southern Ocean conditions. The pair now face a tense tactical battle over the remaining 2000 nautical miles on the way to Itajai in Brazil.

So far, a total of four boats have suffered major structural damage.

The 39,000-mile race is set to end in Galway in July.
