Syria troops take northwestern city of Idlib

After forcing a rebel retreat from the city of Homs, Syrian government troops appear to have intensified their assault in other parts of the country.

In Idlib city, Syrian rebels say they don’t have the firepower to confront security forces and have begun pulling back after three days of fighting.

Videos uploaded to youtube, which we’re unable to verify because of severe reporting restrictions by the Syrian government, appear to show the bombardment of the northwestern city.

Many people have crossed the border into Turkey after receiving advanced warnings that government troops would take control of Idlib.
