Mayor of Italy town forbids dying

Anyone who dies in the Italian town of Falciano del Massico will be breaking a local edict, after the mayor forbid anyone from passing away because there is no space to bury them.

“It’s a provocative ordinance, but I had to issue it in order to raise awareness amongst the authorities in charge.Since Falciano del Massico gained its autonomy in 1964, we haven’t managed to build a cemetary,” explained the town’s mayor Giulio Cesare Fava.

Sticking to the order will be hard, according to one local man who asked: “The mayor said that we must not die, but how do we do obey?”

The ordinance was issued on March 2 in the town 70 kilometres north of Naples.

So far, only two people have fallen foul of the ruling. However, dishing out punishments to any other lawbreakers may prove hard to do.
