The World Trade Organisation has ruled that US aircraft manufacturer Boeing received between 3 and 4 billion dollars in illegal subsidies in the form of federal research grants and local tax breaks.
Despite the news the US Trade Representative Ron Kirk called the decision a “tremendous victory” for the United States arguing that the amount was far less than subsidies paid by European governments to the company Airbus.
Last year the WTO ruled that Airbus had received 18 billion dollars in subsidies.
Kirk said the US is ready to address all the WTO findings but that Europe should do the same with regard to Airbus.
