Romney edges Santorum with Super Tuesday wins

Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum traded victories in the much-vaunted Super Tuesday Republican primaries.

Romney snatched a narrow victory in Ohio, and five other states.

The former private equity executive told supporters in Massachusetts – where he once served as governor – that he will succeed in securing the nomination.

“Tonight, we’re doing some counting. We are counting up the delegates for the convention — and it looks good — and we’re counting down the days until November and that looks even better,” he said.

“We’re going to take your vote — a huge vote tonight in Massachusetts — and take that victory all the way to the White House”.

Santorum netted victories in three states. He has branded himself as the ‘anti-Mitt’ candidate with his staunchly conservative views.

He said his wins were “against the odds” and vowed to keep fighting on in a bid to secure the Republican nomination.

Another ten primary or caucus contests will be held before the end of March.
