Spanish police say an imam near Barcelona is being investigated for allegedly calling on men to use violence against “wives who misbehave”.
Around 1,500 people usually attend the imam’s Friday prayers in the city of Terrassa, which has a large Muslim community.
Police accuse him of giving concrete examples of “how wives should be beaten, how to isolate them in the family home and how to deny them sexual relations”.
