Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said time is running out to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Netanyahu said during a visit to Washington that he would not let his people “live in the shadow of annihilation”.
“President Obama has reiterated to prevent that from happening. He stated clearly that all options are on the table and that American policy is not containment,” said the Israeli premier. “Israel has exactly the same policy”.
“Israel has waited, patiently waited, for the international community to resolve this issue. We’ve waited for diplomacy to work. We’ve waited for sanctions to work. None of us can afford to wait much longer”, he added.
Netanyahu was addressing a conference organised by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC.
It is the biggest and most influential pro-Israel lobby in US politics.
In Obama’s own address to AIPAC on Sunday, he said there had been too much “loose talk” of war with Iran.
He said there was an opportunity “for diplomacy – backed by pressure – to succeed”.
