UN and Arab League envoy on Syria, Kofi Annan has made a plea for President Bashar al-Assad to engage with efforts to end the country’s bloodiest turmoil in decades.
Speaking in New York, Annan announced he would be visiting Syria shortly.
“I am not going to say much tonight since I am going to the region (…) But let me say one thing, if we are going to succeed it is extremely important that we all accept that there should be one process of mediation, the one both the UN and the Arab League have asked me to lead.”
