Now that a three week assault by Syrian government forces on the Baba Amro district of Homs appears to be over, the Red Cross is due to begin an emergency relief operation.
Aid workers will carry food and medical supplies to the area’s roughly 4,000 residents.
Together with its sister operation the Red Crescent Society, the team will attempt to evacuate the injured to nearby hospitals. The charities say Syrian authorities have given them the green light to enter on Friday.
