An Egyptian court has adjourned until April the trial of 43 democracy activists – including 16 Americans.
Only 13 Egyptian defendants were actually in court for the hearing.
It is possible the move could enable authorities to drop a case that is straining ties between Cairo and Washington.
Speaking from Morocco, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was cautious.
“We are evaluating the outcome of the legal proceedings. We’ll have more to say after we have finished that analysis and gathered as much information as possible,” she said.
The defendants all work for NGOs whose offices were raided in December. They face a range of charges including being illegally funded and carrying out political activities.
