Away from the Hollywood glitz of A-listers and massive budgets, five films have been Oscar nominated in the live action short film category. Winning an Oscar is obviously the aim for these film-makers but simply being at the ceremony is going to be a dream come true.

Pentecost is about a reluctant alterboy. Eimear O’Kane, the director and producer, said: “It was nearly two years ago that we made the film, so we’ve been delighted with the festival run that we’ve had, and just this to kind of come towards the end of it is amazing.”

Raju is about a German couple who adopt an Indian child. Stefan Gieren, the producer, said: “It is an unbelivable honor to be nominated for an Oscar. That’s what you dream of as a child; you see the Oscar ceremony and the stars and you think how great it would be to walk up this red carpet!”

Time Freak is about an inventor getting caught up in his own time machine. Gigi Causey, the producer, said: “I would say it’s a dream come true, but I’m not sure it’s come true. We’re really just walking in the clouds, it’s absolutely amazing.”
