French steel workers hold sit-in protest

Around 200 workers have been staging a sit-in at an ArcelorMittal steel plant in northeast France.

The company announced last week that it is to extend a temporary shutdown of its two blast furnaces at the plant.

Lionel Burriello, a shop steward with the FO union said: “We’re very angry because we really feel this is a step towards a shut down.”

The employees at the site in Florange said they were prepared to occupy the management offices indefinitely.
