Belgium’s Tom Boonen held his nerve to claim his fourth Tour of Qatar title in Doha on Friday.
The 31-year-old, who had led the race from the opening stage last Sunday, edged out America’s Tyler Farrar by 28 seconds in the overall standings.
Boonen benefited from the good work of his team-mates, who protected his lead throughout the final stage which was from Sealine Beach Resort to Doha.
France’s Arnaud Demare produced a stunning display to clinch his maiden professional stage victory as he came through in a tense final sprint which saw Britain’s Mark Cavendish fall.
The Team Sky rider, who appeared to escape without serious injury, still managed to finish sixth overall.
