The Syrian city of Homs has come under heavy bombardment for the fifth day in a row, leaving at least 100 people dead, according to opposition activists.

More unverified amateur footage is coming to light allegedly showing attacks on the besieged city by government forces.

However, reports on state television claim the residents of Homs have asked for protection from armed gangs.

Videos purport to show tanks on the streets of Bab Amr, the district hardest hit by bombardments. It is believed up to 150 people have been killed in this neighbourhood in the last two days.

In another video said to be shot covertly in Idlib,

what is claimed to be armed security forces are seen stalking the streets.

As the civilian death toll increases during the crackdown, the opposition continue to demand an end to President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
