England football manager, Fabio Capello has resigned. The Football Association released a statement saying he had quit following a meeting on Wednesday with the FA Chairman, David Bernstein.
On Monday, the Italian who guided England to the Euro 2012 Championship Finals had criticised, in an interview in Italy the FA’s decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy. The Chelsea defender faces a charge of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.
“In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio’s resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England manager with immediate effect,” said the FA statement.
Speculation has heightened that Harry Redknapp will be asked to take up the job of leading the national side. The Spurs boss was cleared on two charges of tax evasion on Wednesday.
