Pressure growing on Germany's president

Germany’s president is coming under increasing political pressure over his financial dealings along with media criticism that he is being economical with the truth.

First there was the scandal which reached the steps of the presidential palace after Christian Wulff sacked his spokesman who is under investigation for corruption.

Now Wulff’s commercial relationship with the business couple Egon and Edith Geerkens has sparked further speculation after it appears to have been more involved than first thought.

Although Wulff is not involved in corruption allegations, questions are being asked why Wulff felt it necessary from the first to deny having recent business connections with the couple.

Wulff has already had to explain a private loan he received from Geerkens’ wife to buy his house in Hannover.
