Rescue teams working in the stricken Italian cruise ship, the Costa Concordia have uncovered another body reported to be that of a woman.
A spokesman for the Civil Protection authority said the corpse was wearing a life jacket and was found on deck seven in the bow area of the ship about 10 metres below the water line.
It brings the total number of known dead to 13 with 19 believed to be still missing.
Earlier relatives of those who perished or are still missing prepared to go to the island of Giglio as Italian authorities weighed up the acute moral quandary of when to abandon the search and rescue effort and give the green light to a Dutch salvage firm to start pumping out fuel.
Overnight sea swells had caused the giant cruise liner to shift its position and rescue work had been temporarily suspended.
A spokesman for the coastguard said it would take a miracle to find anyone alive but added the families had not given up hope.
