Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader has been registered as a candidate in the country’s partial parliamentary elections on April 1. The vote will be closely scrutinised by the West as a test of the commitment by Myanmar’s military rulers to reform.

The US has recently upgraded ties with the country after a series of reforms were introduced.
