A suicide bomber has killed up to 25 people in the latest attack on Shi’ite pilgrims in Iraq.
It happened near Basra at the end of Arbain, one of the main holy days in the Shi’ite calendar.
Some reports said the bomber was disguised as a policeman. Others said he had been distributing sweets to pilgrims crossing a checkpoint.
Members of the security forces were also killed.
Iraq has been on edge amid a political crisis since shortly after the last US troops left in December.
