Accusations of censorship over Pinochet rule

A political storm has erupted in Chile over plans to remove all references to the word “dictatorship’ when referring to the rule of General Augusto Pinochet.

The government wants school text books to describe the era as a “military regime” instead.

More than 3,000 people were killed or disappeared during Pinochet’s 17 year dictatorship from 1973.
