Iran raises tension testing long-range missiles

Iran says it has test-fired two long-range missiles in the Persian Gulf. On Sunday state TV showed the navy test- firing medium-ranged missiles which it says can avoid radar.

Iran is ending ten days of naval exercises which it claims are aimed at preparing to repel any possible attack.

The has US announced plans for new sanctions against Iran over fears its nuclear programme is aimed at developing atomic weapons.

Last week the Iranians threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz if sanctions from the West affect its oil exports. Around 40 percent of the world’s oil flows through the narrow stretch of sea in the Persian Gulf.

Iran denies that its aim is develop nuclear weapons and has indicated that its willing to enter into new talks on the issue.

On Sunday state TV showed pharmacists working in a laboratory and suggesting advances in its nuclear technology are related to improved medical treatments.
