Nine inmates have been killed and at least 50 others hurt in a botched jail break in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Authorities say one prisoner pulled the pin on a grenade but did not throw it because he did not know how to use it.
The incident follows a rash of prison violence and escapes in the central African country, including the break-out of nearly 1,000 detainees from a high security jail in September.
It is thought a jailed ex-colonel was among the masterminds of the attempted escape and an investigation is underway into how he may have got hold of the grenadee
