It was a strange feeling that I felt on January 25: it was a mixture of happiness – being an Egyptian witnessing such an historical moment – and being a journalist who covers the event and broadcasts it to the world. Above all there was the astonishment I felt at these masses of protesters who broke the barrier of fear to ask for new life, especially as many described Egyptians as being inert for so many years. Despite the violence, which led to the fall of large number of people, and despite all the tragic events – the assaults and the firing of live bullets at the protesters – nothing could compare to the pride I felt standing in the middle of Tahrir Square surrounded by hundreds of thousands of Egyptians whose only demands were democracy, freedom and justice.
