Satellite images have been published appearing to give a first glimpse of China’s new maritime might. The aircraft carrier, China’s first, is said to have been taking part in trials in the Yellow Sea. Beijing is seeking to boost its military power amid long-standing territorial disputes in the region.
The vessel is a refitted former Soviet warship – the Varyag. It is understood to have been launched several months ago.
