Yulia Tymoshenko has failed in her latest attempt to overturn her seven-year jail sentence for abuse of office.
The former Ukrainian prime minister was not present at the Kiev appeals court due to her ill health and her defence team argued that is the reason why she should be released.
Her supporters were out in force again at the court. Even her lawyer was forced to climb over security gates erected to keep demonstrators out of the tribunal. Further evidence will be heard in a week’s time.
Tymoshenko was jailed in October. She has repeatedly denied the charges and claims the case against her is politically motivated.
