Amateur videos capture 'assault' in Syria

A number of videos uploaded to social media sites show the alleged aftermath of a military assault by Syrian forces in Homs.

In the amateur video flames burst from shops and buildings. The cameraman suggests the fire is a result of shooting by Syrian forces, who are seen wielding machine guns.

In this video a man appears to lie on the pavement unattended as men with metal rods try to retrieve his body.

An explosion is heard then the man is seeing being rushed to safety.

This is the latest bloodshed in a nine-month-old uprising against president Bashar Al-Assad.

The United Nations say more than 5,000 people have died in Assad’s crackdown on protests that began in March inspired by the Arab uprisings.

The United States and France, which blame Assad’s forces for the violence have urged the United Nations security Council to respond to the mounting death toll.
