Bloodshed has returned to Virginia Tech, four years after the university suffered one of the worst shooting rampages the US has ever seen.
In the latest violence, two people were shot dead.
A lockdown has now been lifted amid reports one of the victims could be the gunman, who may have killed himself. The other was a police officer making a routine traffic stop. A student witnessed the scene.
“As soon as I saw his face I just started crying,” she said. “Obviously if you get shot in the head or the face, it is not going to be good. And then when the other officers started yelling his name to try and get him to wake up or gain consciousness, that is when it really hit me.”
In 2007, a mentally deranged student killed 32 people and wounded 25 others before committing suicide on the rural campus. The massacre was the deadliest attack by a single gunman in US history.
