Former World champion Kimi Raikkonen will return to Formula One next season after signing a two-year deal with Lotus on Tuesday.

The 32 year old, who won the title in 2007, has been away from the sport for two years after his contract with Ferrari was terminated at the end of the 2009 season.

Raikkonen has since raced in the World Rally Championship and NASCAR.

Lotus was forced to search for another driver after Poland’s Robert Kubica confirmed last week that he would not be ready to start the season following his crash in February.
