The mayors of Lyon and Leipzig led an interesting debate entitled ‘Should France imitate Germany?’ Gerard Collomb cited Leipzig’s economic turnaround after a long period of stagnation and stubbornly high unemployment in the wake of German reunification in 1990. As for the current mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung called for a Europe build on the German federal model, with an elected Commission and genuine European political parties.
