Ganzeer: “I boycott the elections, they’re a sham”

Ganzeer, 29 years old Egyptian artist politically engaged, shared a debate with Waldemar Fydrych, 58, the founder and leader of the Orange Alternative movement in Poland. They were invited at the “Forum Libération” in Lyon, France, to discuss the issue: Struggle through art ?

On one side, an anarchist movement that chose to use absurd and surrealism to fight against communism in the eighties and on the other, a young artist who takes an active part in the arab spring, in the begininng of the new millenium. Each era with its tools for artists: flyers, newspapers, happenings and paintings on the walls for some but also YouTube, Twitter and other social medias for the latter….

On Saturday, Ganzeer told euronews he would not vote in the elections due to begin the next Monday : for him “they’re a sham” and he cannot accept elections before the army gives back the power to civilians.

Since January and until today, the young man chose to be part of the revolution both by his works on the the web and on the streets. On Twitter, Tumblr and other platforms, he documents the movement and share some pieces of graphic designs, drawings, video…, but he is also on the streets in Cairo, in the demonstrations themselves and on the walls of the town.
