A passenger aircraft was surrounded and its take-off delayed for hours in the latest sign of lawlessness threatening Libya’s stability.

A Tunisair jet was the target at Tripoli’s Mitiga airport although the protest was aimed not at Tunisia but at Libya’s post-Gaddafi authorities.

Demonstrators are angry over the deaths of ex-rebels from their district in a clash last week in what was the staunch pro-Gaddafi town of Bani Walid.

Protesters eventually left the tarmac, apparently after receiving assurances that those behind the violence would be brought to justice. It is unclear whether any of the suspects were inside the plane.
