As counting draws to a close in Morocco’s parliamentary election, the moderate Islamist PJD party looks set to be the biggest in parliament, Interior Minister Taib Cherkaoui has announced.

The prediction is based on a partial count from Friday’s poll. The PJD, Cherkaoui said, has so far 80 seats in the 395-seat parliament.

Morocco’s Prime Minister Abbas Al Fassi has said he is ready to enter into a coalition with the PJD party.

“The PJD’s victory is a victory for democracy,” he is quoted as saying.
