EU leaders want improved eurozone governance

Italy’s Mario Monti hosted his first meeting with France’s Nicolas Sarkhozy and Germany’s Angela Merkel to discuss his country’s economic crisis and the problems facing the 17 nation eurozone.

The reported divergence of opinions between France and Germany on the role of the ECB and proposals to introduce joint bonds in helping to bail out troubled economies were not mentioned.

“France and Germany, in the coming days will propose changes to EU treaties to improve the governance in the eurozone and to aid more integration and convergence of our economic policies,” explained France’s Nicolas Sarkozy.

The three, leaders of the biggest economies in the EU pledged their support to countries suffering economic problems and will meet again in Rome to further their discussions at the invitation of Italy’s Mario Monti.
