No snow show for Austrian ski slopes

Austria is a green and pleasant land, but it is not supposed to be at this time of year. The country’s ski resorts are struggling against mild temperatures which are keeping the coveted snow at bay.

It is proving too much for technology and resort managers trying to get ready for the skiing season which starts next week.

Ski resort manager,Serafin Siegele Silvretta explained: “We have about 1.000 snow canons, we cannot run them all at the same time, but once 300, 400 or 500 are working… we will do our best.”

In one region, Ischgl- Samnaun, snow cannons are operating 24-hours a day costing half a million euros to date.

With continued high temperatures forecast there is nothing left for holiday makers to do but enjoy the sunshine.
