Soyuz lands safely in Kazakhstan

Mike Fossum, Sergei Volkov and Japan’s Satoshi Furukawa have safely returned to the frozen landscape of Kazakhstan after months in orbit.

The three were brought home courtesy of a Russian-made Soyuz space craft, which landed on its side in the windswept conditions.

The Soyuz had undocked from the International Space Station where the three crew members had spent 165 days in space.

NASA officials at the Kazakhstan site said Tueday’s landing on terra firma via a parachute was smooth and successful.
