Violence has continued in several cities across Syria leaving dozens dead.
In an interview with a British newspaper the Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad said he had no choice but to pursue his crackdown on unrest….he would not bow down to foreign pressure.
Syria’s government wants the Arab League to amend a 500-strong mission to monitor the situation. It claims it is a violation of its sovereignty.
Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem said:
“ The Arab League plan, as given to us, says the League’s mission has the right to act. This violates our jurisdiction and compromises our country’s sovereignty. This is unprecedented in the work of regional organisations – where a regional organisation is working against the benefit of one of its members.”
Earlier within hours of President Assad ignoring an Arab League deadline to halt the repression of protesters, two rocket-propelled grenades are said to have hit a major ruling party building in Damascus.
