Spanish Election: Rubalcaba admits defeat

The PSOE candidate Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba has made a statement at his party headquarters that he has “clearly lost the election,“ and thanked those who did vote for him for their support.
Adding that the Socialists will now lead the opposition in accordance with the general interest of Spain.

Spain’s former opposition party, the centre-right People’s Party, stormed to victory, as voters punished the outgoing Socialists for their perceived economic mismanagement.

An absolute majority for the PP was welcomed by many commentators, and should please the markets, as it creates stability and will now allow them to quickly implement measures aimed at economic recovery.
