Oracle racing, led by Australian skipper Jimmy Spithill, outclassed the French Energy Team twice on Saturday to claim the match racing portion of the America’s Cup World Series in San Diego.
The 32 year old, who guided the team to victory in the 2010 America’s Cup in Spain, steered his 45-foot catamaran to wins of nine seconds and one-minute and seven seconds in the first two races of the best-of-three championship series.
Emirates Team New Zealand, the overall series leader, took third place by defeating Artemis Racing of Sweden team.
